Comanche Park upgrades tennis courts after previous storm damage

The two courts, which suffered significant damage from a microburst, have been rebuilt and are now open to the public.

Rather than opting for temporary repairs, the city took the opportunity to enhance the courts with post-tension concrete, which minimizes cracks and extends the lifespan of the courts beyond 25 years. The project also included upgraded LED lighting, new fencing and windscreens, replacement of park signage and repairs to a damaged backstop.

“The storm damage was devastating, but It gave us an opportunity to rebuild the courts better than before,” said Nick Molinari, senior director. “These upgrades at Comanche Park ensure residents and visitors have access to high-quality tennis courts for years to come.”

The renovation was funded through a combination of insurance claim dollars, the city’s annual court repair budget and park amenity capital improvement funds.

With this project, Scottsdale continues to expand its commitment to high-quality tennis amenities. The city manages a total of 51 tennis courts, 20 of which are located in neighborhood parks. Six of these courts have now been upgraded to post-tension concrete.

In addition to drop-in play, Scottsdale offers a variety of tennis lessons and leagues at Indian School and Scottsdale Ranch Park tennis centers. Players of all skill levels can take advantage of professional instruction and organized play opportunities year-round.
