Academy Registration is now open.

Scottsdale Police and Fire Departments offers teens ages 14-18 the opportunity to learn more about future careers in law enforcement and the fire service at the Public Safety Teen Academy.

The academy, offered at no cost to participants, provides for a total public safety experience, including exposure to police and fire training and job duties.

Details

The academy is 6:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., June 2-6 at the Hontz Training Center.

Scheduled activities include:

  • firefighting skill stations
  • vehicular crime investigation
  • police riot control techniques
  • decision shooting scenarios
  • criminal investigations
  • tactical demonstrations

The students will have the opportunity to learn from expert fire and police instructors, who will present the dynamic topics.

Applicants should be able to accomplish the following:

  • Lift and Carry 50 lbs
  • Drag 120 lbs for 20 feet
  • Perform moderate cardio exercise for 30 minutes
  • Don heavy clothing and gear that might weigh as much as 65 lbs
  • Stoop, Squat and Crawl on Knees

The academy will provide a better understanding of Public Safety and the perfect opportunity to try on careers in law enforcement and fire services.
