Fishing
Chaparral Lake is stocked by AZ Game and Fish throughout the year. Chaparral Lake is stocked approximately every two weeks from December through February with catchable rainbow trout. Chaparral Lake is also stocked approximately every two weeks from April through May and mid-September through October with catchable channel catfish. Stocking ceases during the summer months due to excessive temperatures.
Daily Fish Limits:
- Rainbow Trout: four (4) fish per day per person
- Channel Catfish: four (4) fish per day per person
- Largemouth Bass: two (2) fish per day per person - must be 13-inch minimum length
- Sunfish: 10 fish per day per person
- White Amur (Grass Carp): one (1) fish per day per person - must be 30-inch minimum length
Fishing Fee and License
Anyone nine (9) years of age and under do not need an urban fishing license; anyone 10 years of age and older must have one of the following:
- General Fishing License
- Youth Comb Hunt & Fish License
- Combo Hunt & Fish License
Licenses can be purchased at AZ Game & Fish or sporting good stores.
Boating
Boating is only permitted at Chaparral Lake and McKellips Lake. Boating refers to canoes, row boats (including kayaks), boats with electric motors and sailboats; no inflatable rafts or gas-powered boats. There must be a US Coast Guard Approved flotation device nearby and there must be one per person in the boat although it does not necessarily have to be worn.
