Reata Sports Complex delivers on promise of play and parking

As Scottsdale’s newest sports facility, Reata Sports Complex has nearly completed its first year of operation — and has proven to be a major success.

The complex was designed with a unique dual-use purpose: to support local and regional sports leagues and tournaments while also providing much-needed overflow parking during the city’s largest gatherings, like the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction and WM Phoenix Open. Bond financing for the project was approved by Scottsdale voters in 2019.

In its inaugural year, the facility hosted 16 sports events across its five international-sized soccer fields, welcoming competitions in soccer, lacrosse, rugby and ultimate frisbee. With demand on the rise, the complex is poised to host 25 events in 2025, including new offerings such as a bike triathlon and expanded tournaments in soccer, rugby and lacrosse.

Reata’s impact goes beyond play.

Strategically located to serve as overflow parking for nearby events (Reata is adjacent to WestWorld and about two miles from TPC Scottsdale), the complex has delivered on the city’s promise to voters by successfully supporting Scottsdale’s premier events with critical parking capacity. This dual functionality has been especially valuable during high-traffic events, reducing congestion and providing convenient access for tens of thousands of attendees — all while maintaining the complex’s availability at other times for athletic competitions and community use.

“In its first year, Reata has proven to be an invaluable asset to Scottsdale,” said Senior Director Nick Molinari. It’s not only enhancing our recreational offerings but also delivering on a key commitment to our residents — to provide a flexible space that meets both sporting and event-related needs. This kind of versatility benefits the entire community.”

Reata’s success has also bolstered Scottsdale’s sports tourism economy.

Opening Reata added 31,000 field reservation hours in fiscal year 2024-25. Events and tournaments held at the city’s system of outdoor sporting venues (Reata, Scottsdale Sports Complex and Bell94) generated over 4,000 Scottsdale hotel room bookings — a 20% increase from the previous year.

With the complex’s five fields now in the mix, Scottsdale has a total of 21 sports fields available for local clubs, regional and national tournaments, and overflow event parking for the city’s biggest events — a true win-win for residents, visitors and event organizers alike.
