Scottsdale recognized for economic leadership in 2025 Best in Governance Awards
Scottsdale has been recognized as a Top Performer in the 2025 Best in Governance Awards, a national honor that highlights excellence in local government based on resident feedback and performance measures. Scottsdale earned this distinction in the category of Economy, placing the city among the nation’s elite for livability and responsive leadership.
“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our team and the trust our residents place in us,” said Scottsdale City Manager Greg Caton. “It reinforces our focus on providing exceptional services and fostering an economy where our community can thrive.”
Scottsdale continues to strengthen the foundation for a thriving local economy through innovation and investment, including:
- Old Town Scottsdale’s $40 million revitalization plan – Three major capital projects - Brown Avenue parking structure expansion, Entertainment District parking garage and Main Street streetscape and pedestrian improvements – will enhance daily life for residents and ensure Old Town remains a top-tier destination for visitors and businesses.
- Park and recreation upgrades that strengthen overall quality of life – A variety of improvements have recently been completed or are underway, including Ashler Hills Park, which opened in February, and the new Thompson Peak Dog Park currently under construction, which will include three play areas, restrooms and a connecting footbridge.
- Continuing investment in public safety, visible through things like the Scottsdale Police Department’s Realtime Crime Center, and the Scottsdale Fire Department’s new Station 612 and expanded ambulance service.
Only five communities from more than 150 nationwide were recognized as top performers in each category. Winners are determined using data from The National Community Survey and Polco’s Government Performance Action & Learning performance measures, reflecting the authentic voice of the people and trusted measures of community outcomes.
“Economic success in Scottsdale is built on strong partnerships between our businesses, residents and city leadership,” said Josh Utterback, interim director of Economic Development. “This award affirms that our collective efforts are making a meaningful impact on quality of life and economic opportunity across the community.”
