Understanding Scottsdale's sales tax ballot issue. A Scottsdale sales tax question on the Nov. 5 General Election ballot - Prop. 490 - is moving forward after a legal challenge was dismissed in court.
If approved, Prop. 490 would replace and reduce an expiring 0.20% city sales tax rate with a 0.15% sales tax rate to provide funds solely for capital replacements and improvements at city parks and recreational facilities and additional maintenance, preservation and protection, including police and fire protection, of city parks and the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. This tax rate would expire after 30 years. If Prop. 490 is not approved, then the 0.20% city sales tax rate will expire.

Scottsdale revises performance metrics for evaluating city services. Scottsdale rolled out updates to its citywide performance metrics this month, which will improve internal processes and make it easier for residents to see how the city is performing across various sectors.
The Quarterly Performance Report provides a public overview of vital city services such as emergency response times, drinking water production and more.
Each quarter, residents can view the QPR online to learn whether the current goals have been met.
The northbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard will be closed starting Tuesday, July 23, for about 60 days. Drivers may consider using the northbound Loop 101 frontage road to access westbound Loop 101 at Princess Drive/Pima Road.
This is part of the Arizona Department of Transportation's two-year project to add lanes and improve interchanges on Loop 101 between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive/ Pima Road. “Stay in the Loop” by subscribing to project updates on ADOT's website.
Scottsdale Aquatics will waive enrollment fees. Drownings are on the rise this year in the Valley. Since January, 47 people have drowned in Maricopa and Pinal counties according to the Children’s Safety Zone.
Scottsdale Aquatics will waive enrollment fees for swim lessons throughout August for both residents and non-residents in recognition of Drowning Impact Awareness Month.
The free classes are available for children and adults ages six months and up.
Starting Tuesday, July 23, residents can sign up through Scottsdale Recreation’s online registration system.
Registration for non-residents opens Thursday, July 25.

Things To Do
Learn life-saving skills at Scottsdale's Safey Luau. Bring the whole family for a fun and educational evening at the city's annual Safety Luau from 4-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Eldorado Aquatic Center, 2301 N. Miller Road. Scottsdale Aquatics staff will demonstrate CPR basics and other important water safety concepts, while participants enjoy the waterpark and try their skills at the limbo and Hula. Stick around for the dive-in movie toward the end of the night featuring the animated version of Disney's “The Little Mermaid.”

Road improvements are taking place along Drinkwater Boulevard, between Indian School and Scottsdale roads. In addition to road repaving, improvements include installing and upgrading existing ADA ramps. Work takes place 7 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays. Drinkwater Boulevard is restricted, but not closed, during construction. Business and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project. Use caution when traveling near the construction, follow detour signs and plan ahead to avoid delays.
This work is part of the city’s pavement preservation program, which enhances deteriorated pavement on streets and alleyways in Scottsdale.
