The Scottsdale Salutes program honors local veterans. In November, the city will once again pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve in the United States Armed Forces.

As part of the annual Scottsdale Salutes program, light pole banners featuring local veterans and military service members will be displayed in Old Town for two weeks in November.

All veterans, active-duty service members, and members of the National Guard and reserves who live in Scottsdale or have substantial ties to the community are eligible for nomination. This year, program eligibility has been expanded to include individuals whose connection to the Scottsdale community is demonstrated by working in Scottsdale for at least five years.

Visit ScottsdaleAZ.gov and search “Scottsdale Salutes” to nominate service members until Friday, Sept. 27. Those selected will be honored at a special community reception in November.

The Scottsdale Salutes recognition program was initiated by the Scottsdale Veterans Advisory Commission, a group of seven residents appointed by the City Council to advise on veterans’ issues and raise awareness of veterans’ contributions within the community.

The city recently hosted community conversations on extreme heat at Paiute Neighborhood Center and Vista del Camino. As part of the ¡Qué Calor! community conversation series, four bilingual focus groups were held in April to better understand residents' experiences with heat in the hottest parts of the city. Follow-up sessions in June aimed to share results and discuss potential pilot projects. These conversations centered on participants’ experiences during the 2023 record-breaking heat, strategies for managing resources and mobility in the upcoming summer, and envisioning solutions for a cooler future. Additionally, attendees learned about Scottsdale’s efforts to mitigate heat. The feedback gathered from these sessions will be included in the ongoing development of the Shade and Tree Plan.
