Scottsdale Airport master plan open house is Oct. 29

The Scottsdale Airport master plan is the focus of a community open house from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Scottsdale Aviation Business Center, 15000 N. Airport Drive.

This workshop kicks off the 18-month master plan process and will provide an opportunity to learn more about the Scottsdale Airport as it is today, and what the future may bring. Attending the workshop will allow people to learn more and chat with project team members to gain a better understanding of the study’s purpose and process and how it can help to shape the future for the airport.

A new website - Scottsdale.Airportstudy.net – will host news and information for the master plan effort. Residents can also stay informed by subscribing to Scottsdale Airport’s e-newsletters and following the airport on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook or Instagram.

Nominations close this week for the 2025 Sustainable Scottsdale Awards. The awards recognize innovative individuals, businesses, associations, educational institutions and organizations that demonstrate exceptional sustainability efforts directly enhancing the quality of life in Scottsdale and contributing to an eco-friendly city.

Nominations will be accepted through 5 p.m. Oct. 31. Applicants will complete a brief application form and submit a narrative summary telling their innovative program’s story. Award winners will be announced during Earth Week in April 2025. Learn more.

THINGS TO DO

Scottsdale Police Department’s Trunk or Treat. Join the Scottsdale Police Department for its second annual Trunk-or-Treat event on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Come dressed in your best costumes to enjoy for a fun night of trick-or-treating in a safe environment.

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness month, travel toiletry donations will be collected for domestic violence victims and there will be resources and professional staff onsite to answer any questions.

Take a ride during Halloween Spook-Track-Ula. Stop in for a spell as the Paradise & Pacific Railroad is transformed into a haunted park of fun for Halloween Spook-Track-ula. This family-friendly event is perfect for kids of all ages.

The event will feature limited capacity one and a half hour time blocks at 6 and 8 p.m. nightly. The park will only be accessible to those who have purchased tickets during a specific time block.

The event takes place every day from 6-9:30 p.m. Oct. 11-Oct. 31. Learn more and purchase tickets here.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

Learn about water-wise plants for your home. Join Scottsdale Water’s irrigation specialists to discuss the best plants for your low water use landscape, including Arizona-friendly plant species, planting techniques, and ways to efficiently water and prune your water-wise plants. We will also debut the new Landscape Plants for Arizona booklet. Please arrive 15 minutes early to locate the auditorium and check in at the door. Space is limited, please register to reserve a spot.

Neighborhood College: Conflicts of interest and how to avoid them. Conflicts of interest in an HOA are real and cannot be ignored. If left unaddressed, they can threaten your association, its day-to-day operations, and the sense of community every association strives to achieve.

This class will explain the importance of having a clear understanding of what constitutes a conflict of interest, the problems they can create, and how your association and board of directors should address and avoid them.
