Adventure begins at Scottsdale Public Library! In partnership with Maricopa County Reads, libraries across the Valley are participating in the Summer Reading Challenge from June 1 – Aug. 1. The goal is to read 1,000 minutes (roughly 20 minutes per day) in an effort to prevent the ‘summer slide’ for students. By participating in the Summer Reading Challenge, students remain engaged throughout the summer so when they return to school in the fall, they are prepared and do not need to spend time catching up or re-learning.
“The Summer Reading Challenge is such an exciting program offered throughout our library system – and this year’s theme, Adventure Begins at Your Library, is the perfect way to entice future and current readers,” says Michael Beck, Scottsdale Public Library director. "The Summer Reading Challenge isn't just about meeting a quota; it's about fostering a lifelong love of literature for kids, teens and families.”
Participants will track their minutes and earn prizes based on age level along the way. One minute read = one point. Prizes are supplied from local community partners including Friends of the Scottsdale Public Library, Harkins Theatres, Phoenix Mercury and more. In addition to reading and logging minutes, families can earn points by completing online challenges, participating in community experiences and attending library programs at all four branches.
Readers can register online or visit any Scottsdale Public Library branch to sign up.
