What is the SAVE Program?
The Systemic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) is an internet-based program run by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, a component of the Department of Homeland Security. It determines the immigration status of applicants for public benefits. However, SAVE does not determine benefit eligibility. Every applicant is required to submit documentation demonstrating lawful presence in the United States and sign a sworn statement that the documentation is authentic.
SAVE is mandatory in the State of Arizona under voter approved Proposition 314 and must be used by the city before providing any state, local or federal benefit. State and local benefits are defined in federal law, 8 USC 1621, and include benefits such as welfare, health, disability, public or assisted housing, food assistance, other similar benefits for which payments or assistance are provided to an individual, household, or family by the city.
City of Scottsdale Human Services and Housing programs that have an application, are contingent upon income and the applicant is voluntarily applying shall comply with SAVE.
IMPORTANT: To be eligible for this benefit you must have the legal right to be in the United States. When you submit this application, the city will verify your immigration status and if you are found to be here unlawfully you will be reported to the federal government. Under Arizona law, applying for this benefit is a crime if you are not lawfully present in the United States and the city is required to report violations of federal immigration law. A.R.S. §1-502 and 503. You may also be investigated and prosecuted for violations of Arizona law.
