The station was built in 1985 and several of the building’s systems are failing and at the end of useful life. The sewer from the building to the sewer main has failed causing backflows into the station creating unsanitary conditions. The renovation also updates electrical and HVAC systems.

The current building is trilevel, which hampers functionality and is not ADA compliant. The renovation will bring the floorplan to a single level, fully accessible, ADA floorplan. The revised design lowers the upper level by 4 feet to align with the first level and includes an addition to the front of the existing building. The renovation will also prepare the building to house an ambulance to service for the surrounding community.

Fire Station Information

Apparatus at Station 6 includes a fire engine and the Hazardous Materials Response vehicle that is staffed by a four-person crew of two EMTs and two Paramedics who are also HazMat Techs -- specially-trained to respond to HazMat calls, like natural gas leaks. The central location of Station 6 allows the crews to respond to these calls quicker.

Fire Station 606 serves a population of more than 19,000 that includes the Scottsdale Unified School District "Desert Mountain Learning Community," featuring Desert Mountain High School, 3 middle schools and 5 elementary schools.

Public Outreach

An open house was held on Monday, March 25 at the Via Linda Senior Center, 10440 E. Via Linda. Participants received an overview of the project and had the opportunity to provide comments to the design team.
