Sonora the Horse

Sonora is a custom-built community art sculpture created to celebrate Scottsdale’s 75th anniversary. Designed by the creative team at Scottsdale Artists’ School, the 75-inch by 75-inch wire horse reflects the city’s history and cultural roots. During the yearlong celebration, Old Town visitors are invited to participate in Pony Expressions with Sonora, a collaborative activity that encourages people to share personal memories of Scottsdale by adding pony-colored fabrics such as leather and cotton to the sculpture. As more visitors contribute, Sonora evolves from a bare framework into a vibrant symbol of shared experiences and local pride.

Upcoming opportunities to visit Sonora:

  • Feb. 26 | Founder's Day
  • March 6 & 7 | ArtsFest
  • April 4 | Bunnanza
  • June 6 | June Days
  • Nov. 28 through Dec. 31 | Scottsdazzle events

The Scottsdale 75th Anniversary logo blends the city's historic roots with a fresh, modern aesthetic—symbolizing our community, where the Old West meets the New West. At the heart of the design is a spur, a nod to Scottsdale's Historic Old Town, where the "West's Most Western Town" began its stride toward the modern, world-class community we know today. The spur features eight points, each representing one of the eight decades since Scottsdale was incorporated on June 25, 1951. The logo also incorporates the typeface from the official Scottsdale city seal and features the city’s brand colors, creating a strong visual connection to Scottsdale’s identity—past, present, and future.
