Every voice adds to a shared story of the people, places, and moments that make Scottsdale so special.
Sonora is a custom-built community art sculpture created to celebrate Scottsdale’s 75th anniversary. Designed by the creative team at Scottsdale Artists’ School, the 75-inch by 75-inch wire horse reflects the city’s history and cultural roots. During the yearlong celebration, Old Town visitors are invited to participate in Pony Expressions with Sonora, a collaborative activity that encourages people to share personal memories of Scottsdale by adding pony-colored fabrics such as leather and cotton to the sculpture. As more visitors contribute, Sonora evolves from a bare framework into a vibrant symbol of shared experiences and local pride.
Upcoming opportunities to visit Sonora:
Visit the temporary art exhibit at the Scottsdale Civic Center titled Scottsdale Through the Decades. Created by artist, Kayla Newnam, the display showcases larger-than-life figures inspired by the Old Town cowboy and feature historical milestones from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.
