With nearly all ballots tabulated by Maricopa County in Scottsdale’s July 30 primary election, the race for Scottsdale mayor will be a runoff between Lisa Borowsky and David Ortega. Additionally, two council seats remain open to be decided at the Nov. 5 general election.

In the Scottsdale primary election, nine residents were running for three seats on the City Council. To be elected at outright in the primary, a Scottsdale City Council candidate must receive a majority of all the legal votes cast in the election for that candidate’s race.

According to the City Charter, the majority of legal votes cast for City Council is determined by:

• Dividing the total number of legal votes cast in each candidate’s race by the number of seats to be filled (3);
• Dividing that number in half;
• Rounding to the next highest whole number.

Based on the current election results from Maricopa County, candidate Jan Dubauskas has been elected at the primary and will take office in January 2025. Two Council seats remain to be filled at the November 2024 general election.

The next four candidates with the highest number of votes will advance to the November general election, with the two candidates receiving the most votes cast being elected and taking office in January 2025. Based on current election results, Scottsdale City Council candidates Tammy Caputi, Tom Durham, Adam Kwasman and Maryann McAllen will advance to the November general election.

Final results for the Scottsdale City Council race will be posted after final election results are provided by Maricopa County.

The Scottsdale City Council is scheduled to canvass the election results at its Aug. 13 City Council Meeting.
