HEADLINE NEWS

Northbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Raintree Drive in north Scottsdale has reopened. The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers that the contractor has reopened the northbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Raintree Drive to traffic after completing reconstruction work.

Closures and Restrictions (Oct. 1-6)

Princess Drive/Pima Road

Southbound Pima Road at Loop 101 will be narrowed to two lanes for approximately three weeks beginning 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct 1.

  • Note: The two left turn lanes to the southbound Loop 101 on-ramp and frontage road will remain open.

Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard

Westbound Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard will be closed at Loop 101 from 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, to 5 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3.

  • Note: Law enforcement officers will direct access to businesses along the north side of Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard between 90th Street and Loop 101.
  • Detour: Drivers may use southbound 90th Street to westbound Raintree Drive to northbound Hayden Road to Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard or the southbound Loop 101 frontage road to access Loop 101.

Southbound Loop 101

Southbound Loop 101 between Princess Drive/Pima Road and Shea Boulevard will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6. The southbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Scottsdale and Hayden roads also will be closed.

  • Detour: Drivers may consider using southbound Scottsdale Road to eastbound Shea Boulevard to access southbound Loop 101 beyond the closure.

Work at the Pima Road Improvement Project was impacted by last weekend’s storms - please note the following closures in the project corridor. This work area runs on Pima Road from McDowell Road to the Loop 101.

  • Flooding at Indian School Road and Pima Road intersection, the intersection will be closed until 5 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1.
  • The sink hole on Pima between Thomas and McDowell Roads – this area will be closed until further notice (one-week timeline is estimated).
  • Asphalt damage on Pima north of McDonald to Krail Street - this area, including the Arizona Canal crossing, will be closed until further notice.

Scottsdale’s newest fire station is now open and ready to serve residents in the city’s northern area. Fire Station 612, located at the northeast corner of Hayden Road and Mayo Boulevard, began operations Monday, Sept. 22.

Tour the new facility during a public open house from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, to meet Scottsdale Fire personnel, explore the station’s features and learn more about the department’s role in protecting the community.

With an anticipated workload of more than 2,000 incidents annually, the station will play a vital role in improving emergency response times for the surrounding community.

The 12,000-square-foot facility is staffed by a four-person engine company and a two-person battalion chief unit. It also houses specialized vehicles including a wildland interface fire attack vehicle and a utility support vehicle, ensuring crews are equipped for a wide range of emergencies.

Scottsdale residents can safely recycle old electronics Saturday, Oct. 4, at the city’s North Corp Yard. It’s important to properly recycle things like old computers, printers, phones, cameras, flat panel televisions/monitors and stereo equipment – and Scottsdale Solid Waste's free Electronics Recycling Event is the place to do it.

The event is from 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at 9191 E. San Salvador Drive. Proof or residency is required: such as a photo I.D. with your Scottsdale address or a city utility bill.

The Old Town Scottsdale Farmers Market reopens for the season on Saturday, Oct. 4. The market offers more than 100 local growers and specialty food vendors at 3806 N. Brown Ave. Shoppers can enjoy the market every Saturday from 7–10 a.m. Learn more.

Fall baseball returns to Scottsdale. The first pitch of the Arizona Fall League baseball season will happen under the lights at Scottsdale Stadium, 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, when the Peoria Javelinas visit the Scottsdale Scorpions. The Scorpions will host 15 home games during the fall season, and the stadium will also host the quarterfinal round of the season playoffs in November.

Workshop teaches how to grow Arizona-friendly, water-wise plants. Scottsdale Water Conservation will host “Plants for the Arizona Desert” at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Civic Center Library, 3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd.

Irrigation specialists will share tips on low-water-use landscaping, including Arizona-friendly plant species, planting techniques, and efficient watering and pruning methods.

Space is limited; participants are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes early and register in advance to reserve a spot.

Explore galleries during Scottsdale ArtWalk. Scottsdale is home to more than 100 galleries, dedicated to exhibiting the finest visual art from around the world and locally. Stroll at your own pace. 7-9 p.m. Thursdays. Specialty-themed Gold Palette ArtWalks are held 6:30-9 p.m. about once a month.

Neighborhood College: Amending Your CC&Rs. Do you have a bad provision in your community's covenants, conditions, and restrictions (CC&Rs)? Are your Bylaws in conflict with Arizona Statutory Law? Government 202: Understanding your city’s finances. Get a clear look at how Scottsdale manages our funding sources. End the session with an interactive activity where you get to decide how you would choose to divide up the city’s money. Perfect for residents who want to be informed, engaged, and ready to participate.

Scottsdale’s McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is celebrating its 50th year with new features and record attendance. This summer, the park opened a 10,000-square-foot Roundhouse indoor play space, a 5,000-square-foot splashpad and a redesigned entry plaza. Funded through voter-approved bonds and support from the Scottsdale Railroad Mechanical Society, the $13.1 million improvements have already boosted summer attendance by 160%, with more than 39,000 visitors in the first month.

The park’s Golden Jubilee celebration kicks off Oct. 4–5 during Railfair, featuring live music, activities and historical displays. Additional family events will continue through the year, including Halloween Spook-Track-ula, Holiday Lights and Noon Year’s Eve.
