Rules & Regulations

Always follow all traffic laws and exercise personal responsibility for your own safety and the safety of children.

  • There may be hazards on or around the riding surface. Pay attention and always ride at a speed and in a manner to be able to avoid all hazards.
  • Follow ALL traffic laws and rules of the road – you must obey the same rights and rules as motorists.
  • If you can’t make it through a traffic signal with the rest of the group, call out so the group knows some of you are stopping for the red light.

Be safe and courteous when riding – Share the Road and Path!

  • Stay to the right, especially if vehicles are on the road – but don’t ride too close to parked cars.
  • Do not block travel lanes or path traffic when stopping at Art Stops.
  • On paths: yield to pedestrians, pass on the left, and call out politely when passing.

Communicate – Warn each other if there are:

  • Hazards in the road.
  • Cars approaching from behind or side-streets/driveways. “Car up, car back, car right.”
  • Oncoming bikes or pedestrians, or bikes passing your group.
  • Repeat these signals throughout the group so everyone can see/hear them.

NOTICE OF NON-LIABILITY AND GENERAL RELEASE

Waiver of Liability: By participating in this program, I understand that physical injury may occur and that the event involves riding a bicycle in traffic and around other bicyclists and path users. I understand that there may be hazards on or around riding surfaces and that it is my responsibility to exercise responsibility for my own safety including riding at a speed and in a manner that allows me to avoid all hazards. I understand that I must follow all traffic laws and Ride Rules and exercise personal responsibility for my own safety and that of children. I voluntarily accept and solely assume all risk of damages and injury, including death, incurred or suffered by me or my child(ren) while participating in this program. I hereby waive, release, and agree to hold harmless and discharge the city of Scottsdale, and its appointed officials, officers, directors, commissioners, agents, employees, volunteers, representatives, successors, and assigns, to the fullest extent allowed by law from any and all claims, suits, actions, expenses, damages, and losses without limitation for personal or bodily injury, wrongful death, and property damage occurring, arising from, related to or resulting from participation in this program.

Medical Assistance: I hereby authorize the city of Scottsdale staff to obtain any needed medical assistance for me and/or my child in case of an emergency, illness or accident and to take me and/or my child to the nearest available medical facility. I understand that any resulting expenses or charges are my responsibility and I will pay them immediately, either directly or through personal insurance.
