Forbes ranks Scottsdale Airport No. 8 among nation’s busiest business jet airports

City News

Scottsdale Airport has been ranked the eighth-busiest single runway general aviation facility in the nation by Forbes, highlighting the airport’s role in connecting Scottsdale to business travelers, visitors and companies across the country.

The ranking was featured in a Sept. 28 Forbes article examining the nation’s 10 busiest private jet airports and how demand for private aviation is influencing investment in airport facilities and services. Scottsdale Airport is widely recognized as one of the busiest single‑runway airports in the United States, handling over 160,000 takeoffs and landings annually. Other airports listed in Forbes’ ranking have multiple runways and commercial service.

The article noted Scottsdale’s strong private aviation presence, including dedicated facilities operated by NetJets and a new owner-exclusive terminal being developed by Flexjet.

“Scottsdale Airport is an important gateway to our community and a significant contributor to our local economy,” said Scottsdale City Manager Greg Caton. “This national recognition reflects the appeal of Scottsdale as a destination for business and leisure travel, as well as the work our Aviation team does to maintain a high-quality airport that supports our residents, businesses and visitors.”

Located approximately nine miles north of Old Town Scottsdale, Scottsdale Airport serves corporate aircraft and other general aviation users. Its location provides convenient access to Scottsdale’s resorts, hotels, restaurants, golf courses and business destinations.

The airport also serves as a major economic driver for Scottsdale and the surrounding region. According to the city’s latest airport economic benefit analysis, airport and Airpark activities support more than 5,170 jobs, generate approximately $392 million in payroll and contribute nearly $1.1 billion in annual economic output.

“Scottsdale Airport’s place among the nation’s busiest private jet airports speaks to the demand for convenient, reliable access to our community,” said Deputy City Manager Judy Doyle. “Our team works every day to maintain safe, efficient operations while supporting the aviation businesses, corporate travelers and visitors who rely on the airport. We’re proud to play an important role in Scottsdale’s continued economic success.”

The Scottsdale Airpark, which surrounds the airport, is one of Arizona’s largest employment centers. The area is home to more than 85 major companies and nearly 3,233 small and medium-sized businesses employing more than 59,000 people.

Scottsdale Airport offers U.S. Customs and Border Protection services daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., helping accommodate international travelers who meet entry requirements. With favorable flying conditions throughout much of the year and proximity to Scottsdale’s business and tourism destinations, the airport remains an important asset for corporate aviation and regional connectivity.
