Recreational Swim Team
Recreational Swim Team provides your child an introduction to a swim team environment where they will practice their swimming skills, build self-esteem, make new friends, get physically fit, and gain competitive experience. Swimmers will be working on all four competitive strokes: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle. Ages five and up and all fitness levels are welcome. Swimmers are required to have a baseline understanding of all four competitive strokes and the ability to swim consecutive laps in a competition pool (25 yards). It is highly recommended that swimmers have completed Learn to Swim lessons through the Sharks level. Practices will be in groups based on swimmer’s age and the coaches are happy to work with all skill levels.
Summer rec swim team includes optional (but highly encouraged) Saturday morning meets! These meets are approximately two hours long with a variety of home and away meets. Meets are a fun way to show off swim skills and will be good practice for the City Championship End of Summer Party.
Recreational Dive Team
Recreational Dive Team introduces fundamental diving skills such as forwards and backwards dives, proper approaches, forward and backward summersaults and much more. Previous participation in a diving class is recommended. Participants must be at least 6 years old by the start of the program and should be able to swim in deep water (up to 14 ft.) safely.

Hello! My name is Alaina and I will be coaching the Chaparral rec team this summer. This is my third summer coaching rec! I have swum competitively for 10 years through SAC. My favorite race is 200 IM and I’m so excited to see everyone again and meet this new team. Go Chap Sharks!!

My name is Eva Reeves! I have swam competitively for 10 years through Scottsdale Aquatic Club! This is my third year as a coach for Chaparral. My favorite stroke is breaststroke, and I love teaching kids the science behind swimming! Let’s have fun this summer!

My name is Lauren Lopez. I graduated from veritas prep academy this past May and I'm off to NAU in the fall. I swam club at phoenix swim club for ten years and my favorite stroke is breaststroke! this will be my second summer as head rec coach and third summer as a lifeguard at Cactus for the City of Scottsdale. I can’t wait to make it a great summer with you all!
Layla
My name is Layla Petz. I have been a swimmer since I can remember, participating on noncompetitive, high school and club teams. I love any activity around the water, and I will be a junior at the University of Tampa. This will be my fifth summer with the City of Scottsdale and I am excited for a great summer season at Cactus!

Hi! I’m Lona and I will be the head rec dive coach at Cactus this summer! I have been diving for about 4 years and coaching for 3. I’m so excited to meet you all this summer!

Hi, I’m Lucas Minarich, head coach of the evening rec team for the McDowell Mountain Ranch Aquatic center. This will be my third year coaching the rec swim team, and I am so grateful for it. I have swam competitively for over 7 years, and I remain dedicated to the sport to this day. Let’s have a great rec swim season!

Reagan
Hi! My name’s Reagan Peck and I’ve been working at McDowell Mountain Ranch for 5 years and coaching on the rec team for 4! I am going into my sophomore year at the University of Arizona where I’m studying accounting! Teaching rec has always been important to me, as my childhood summers were always spent competing on a swim team. Working at MMR has been even more fun than I imagined and part of this is because of being a rec coach. With this, I am beyond excited to have fun this summer and can not wait to meet everyone!
