The Green Building Program encourages a whole-systems approach through design and building techniques to minimize environmental impact and reduce the energy consumption of buildings while contributing to the health of its occupants.
2008 - Citizen of the Year Award for Outstanding Service and Contributions to the Real Estate Community
Scottsdale Area Association of Realtors recognition for leadership role in promoting and educating the real estate community on the value of green building and sustainable communities.
2007 - Valley Forward Environmental Excellence Award for GB Expo
Mayor Manross and Scottsdale's Green Building Program were awarded the coveted Environmental Excellence Award for Environmental Education and Communication in the public sector. The 10th Annual Green Building Expo provided a unique educational event to help broaden environmentally sensitive building practices valley-wide. The event was made possible by the 20 person volunteer planning committee and municipal collaboration between the cities of Phoenix, Tempe, and Scottsdale.
2006 - Governor's Award for Energy Efficiency
Mayor Manross and the city green building team was presented with the Award of Excellence during the Award's Ceremony Luncheon held on March 21, 2006. Scottsdale's LEED Gold certified Senior Center is predicted to use 40 percent less energy annually. This amounts to a savings of approximately $22,000 a year in energy costs and building design. Based upon energy and maintenance savings, the city expects to completely recover the extra cost of five percent in less than 11 years.
2005 - Valley Forward Environmental Excellence Awards
First-place Crescordia in the category of "Livable Cities/Resource Management" was awarded for the first city in the nation to adopt the LEED gold standard. This measure mandates that all new city buildings and remodels be certified at the Leadership and Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold level.
The President’s Award was presented to the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy, formerly the McDowell Sonoran Land Trust, for creating a powerful community alliance leading to the preservation of 57 square miles, one-third of the city of Scottsdale, as natural, public open space.
2005 - Governor’s Energy Efficiency Award
The program received second place for its partnerships with homebuilders on projects incorporating energy conservation features and for its public workshops promoting a whole-home approach to conservation.
2004 - EPA Recognition
The National Environmental Performance Track (NEPT) Environmental Performance award was presented to the city of Scottsdale. This is one of only four uch awards for 2004. The city is currently applying for another three year cycle of NEPT.
2002 - EPA Recognition
The city of Scottsdale was recognized as the “First Local Government” entity accepted into NEPT. 2000 - Valley Forward Environmental Excellence Awards
The Environmental Excellence Award was presented for the city’s education programs and marketing strategies to encourage builders to incorporate environmentally responsible practices and features into their projects.
2000 - Construction Specifications Institute (CSI)
At CSI’s 2000 national conference in Atlanta, the Environmental Sensitivity Award was presented for the Green Building program's ongoing efforts to promote environmental awareness in the construction industry.
1999 - EPA Recognition
Green Lights Partner of the Year competition - the city of Scottsdale received honorable mention.
1998 - EPA Recognition
Challenge for Energy Excellence - The city of Scottsdale received recognition from the Energy Star Buildings and Green Lights Partnership program.
