Project Overview
This project made several enhancements to Pima Road. This segment of roadway is now three through lanes in each direction with a landscaped median, bike lanes, sidewalk and drainage improvements from 500-feet north of Pinnacle Peak Road to north of Happy Valley Road.
This project was done to improve the capacity and operational efficiency of the roadway. The plans were developed through a series of community meetings and the public hearing process. This project was be built in conjunction with improvements to Happy Valley Road between Pima Road and Alma School Road. Which will be complete later this year.
The Pima Road Improvements project included a regional drainage channel to reduce the potential for flooding on the homes to the west which was funded by fees from the storm water utility bill and the Flood District of Maricopa County. The Pima Road project also included a sound wall on the west side of Pima Road from Pinnacle Peak Road to just south of Happy Valley Road.
The widening of this segment of Pima Road was part of Scottsdale’s Transportation Master Plan. Funding for the project was part of the city’s 5-year Capital Improvement Plan and the project was funded by the Regional Sales Tax (Arterial Life Cycle Program) and Scottsdale’s Transportation 0.2% Sales Tax.
